“You can close your eyes to the things you don’t want to see, you can’t close your heart to the things you don’t want to feel.”

– Johnny Depp

What is Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy addresses personal difficulties. It allows an individual to talk openly and confidentially about their concerns and feelings with a trained professional. Almost all types of psychotherapy involve developing a therapeutic relationship, communicating and creating a dialogue and working to overcome problematic thoughts or behaviors.

Individuals who practice psychotherapy are called psychotherapists. They may have been trained specifically to practice psychotherapy or they may come from related disciplines such as psychiatry, psychology, or social work.

A Psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in the assessment and treatment of mental behavioral disorders. This is the person who prescribes and monitors medication.

A Psychologist has a Ph.D. in psychology and is trained to perform psychological research, testing, and therapy.

A Social Worker is a helping professional who is focused on both the individual and his or her environment. Social workers perform interventions through research, policy, community organizing, direct practice and teaching
